Liv became interested in fitness and performance in high school as a freestyle skier. He wanted to better his performance, stay healthy, and improve his body composition, and the gym was a one-stop shop to positively impact all those things. Influenced by his own experience working with a coach, Liv set his sights on helping others.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and becoming certified as a personal trainer, he began working with clients while interning with distinguished strength and conditioning coach, Peter Park. Working side-by-side with Peter, Liv learned techniques that have helped him work with college athletes, professional athletes, and general fitness clients.

Later, after earning a certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist and working at Equinox in Santa Monica, Liv moved to San Diego, where he got a master’s degree and began focusing on coaching high performance, college athletes. He did a seven-month strength and conditioning internship with the University of Oregon’s football team, then moved back to San Diego to work as a paid intern for speed coach Les Spellman, at his company Spellman Performance, preparing NFL draft hopefuls for the NFL Combine and conducting NFL off-season workouts. Wanting exposure with different sports, Liv rounded out his experience with a nine-month internship as a strength and conditioning coach for men’s and women’s basketball and women’s tennis at San Diego State University.

Liv realized after coaching both individual athletes and large groups in the weight room, his strength lies in the attentiveness he brings to one-on-one training. He founded Anchor Performance to help clients of all ages and abilities build sound physical and mental practices so they can better achieve their fitness and performance goals. Liv views training as a collaboration that requires a positive influence and a high degree of trust. His goal is to help you build flexibility, mobility, strength, and power, while increasing stamina, promoting recovery, and reducing the risk of injury.

 FAQs

  • Liv doesn’t believe that one type of training is better than the rest. He believes that gradual progression over time is the best approach. Not one thing works for everyone, so learning about clients beforehand and finding what works, what does not work, and what they enjoy is an essential aspect of Liv’s programming. Liv usually recommends getting at least two workouts in per week, but it is ideal to get three or four in per week if possible.
